About the role
BlackSea Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 3-6 years' relevant experience to join our team in Baltimore.
Responsibilities
- Supporting teamwork efforts to design, manufacture, and test equipment on crewed and unmanned Surface Vessels and submersible systems, including the vessels themselves
- Equipment can include vessel hull designs and modifications, vessel drivetrains, electromechanical components and accessories, sensor arches, removable hatches, mechanical and shipboard handling equipment, winches, capture and release devices, motors, pumps, operator interfaces, integration of wiring harnesses, sensors, and microprocessors.
- Planning, coordinating, and integrating equipment on customer vessels
- Assisting in the development of design data ranging from fabrication drawings through system descriptions / diagrams, technical reports, and customer presentations
- Coinciding with project personnel to ensure that program requirements and expectations are met in a timely manner.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant technical discipline from an ABET-accredited school
- Three to 6 years’ experience as a mechanical engineer with an emphasis on design engineering, maritime equipment, ship integration, test and evaluation, uncrewed systems, or related topics.
- Significant 3D CAD modeling experience
- Good communications and organizational skills
- Ability and willingness to receive and maintain a US Government security clearance
Qualifications
- Experience as a mechanical engineer performing mechanical and/or machine design from concepts through production and testing
- Strong SolidWorks 3D CAD skills
- Experience with SolidWorks Simulation Finite Element Analysis tools
- Demonstrated project management and/or team leadership experience on small to medium projects
- Mechanical aptitude and intuition with experience in the design, testing, and production of electromechanical or robotic systems
- Design engineering experience with a wide variety of components, structures, and systems
- Experience or willingness to work in a rapid prototyping and testing environment
- Interest in maritime activities, structures, and/or vehicles
- Experience coordinating and working with machine shops, welders, fabrication technicians, and other engineering staff, including electrical and controls engineers
- An existing US Government security clearance
- Technical curiosity and the desire to conceptualize, design, build and test a wide range of evolving projects being implemented from the seafloor to aerospace systems
- A desire and ability to travel for testing and demonstrations.
