About the role
Argus Consulting is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our headquarters in Overland Park, KS. This role is ideal for a mid-level mechanical engineer who is already leading projects and people — or is ready to step fully into a Lead Engineer role in the near future. This position blends hands-on technical expertise with project leadership and people mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and analysis of mechanical systems in compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Act as a point of contact for clients and contractors, providing technical guidance and project updates
- Support the development of engineering staff and contribute to long-term team growth
- Independently manage small to mid-sized projects, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to a mixed group of engineers at varying experience levels, ensuring adherence to engineering standards
- Develop and review project documentation including calculations, drawings, and specifications
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex technical challenges
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Interest in growing into a formal Lead Engineer role with direct reports
- 7+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and guiding other engineers
- Strong technical background with the ability to remain hands-on when needed
- Experience in fuel, fuel-adjacent, industrial, or similar environments strongly preferred
- Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD, AFT Fathom, or similar tools
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Clear communicator comfortable working with clients, contractors, and internal teams
