About the role

AECOM is seeking a mid-career Mechanical Engineer to support our multi-disciplinary design team addressing the most challenging engineering tasks in power generation. This role involves developing mechanical equipment and piping material specifications, producing calculations, coordinating with the mechanical design team, and performing various design assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical equipment and piping material specifications
  • Produce calculations to inform design such as hydraulic modeling, pipe stress calculations, tank and pump sizing
  • Coordinate with mechanical design team to direct completion of engineering drawings
  • Multi-discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, P&ID’s, isometrics, asset and tie-in lists, orthographic, etc.
  • Attend client meetings and/or site field visits
  • Perform both routine and non-routine, complex design assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations
  • Maintain open communication with project team and supervisor regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgeting
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations
  • Interact with vendors, regulatory agencies and contractors
  • Prepare project specification and contract documents
  • Ability to check and verify work prepared by peer/group
  • Apply strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US mechanical and industrial infrastructure
  • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering for industrial or power generation projects
  • EIT Certification with the ability to license as a PE within 1 year
  • Professional Engineering licensure preferred
  • 6+ years of experience preferred
  • 2+ yrs experience as project technical mechanical lead preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with specifying mechanical equipment (e.g. rotating equipment, tanks, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchanges)
  • Familiarity with diverse metallurgy preferred
  • Familiarity with engineering software packages: Caesar II, Pipe-Flo (or other hydraulic modeling application), AspenTech applications and/or Applied Flow Technology applications preferred
  • Experience with nuclear power generation and thermal power generation preferred
  • Experience executing work in 3D model environments and collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, ACC) preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD Plant3D Smart P&ID’s preferred
  • Strong knowledge of piping specifications and pipe stress analysis preferred
  • Knowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectations preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards (e.g. API, ASME) preferred

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, 4 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering for industrial or power generation projects, EIT Certification with the ability to license as a PE within 1 year.

Pay

$100,000 - $130,000 per year
