Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

A mechanical engineer will be responsible for the design and layout of systems such as HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection for various projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical engineering design and layout of systems for commercial, industrial, correctional, and municipal projects.
• Aid in the development of probable construction cost estimates for projects within the department.
• Prepare design computations including heating and cooling loads, ventilation, etc.
• Aid in the preparation of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and permits for projects.
• Provide technical support to other staff in their area of expertise.
• Work with other disciplines and project managers as needed to complete project deadlines.
• Perform drafting on a regular basis to produce construction drawings as needed.
• Review contractor submittals, respond to questions from contractors, and perform visits as needed.
• Understand terminology and other concepts related to engineering and construction practices.
• Responsible for job-specific quality system tasks as defined in the Project Management Manual.
• Walkthrough and document conditions in existing buildings to prepare for the design of renovations or draft building assessment reports.
• Aid in the review of contractor submittals and respond to contractor questions during construction.
• Provide quality control review of peer’s designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
• EIT (Engineer in Training), preferred.
• 2+ years of experience required.
• Revit experience required.
• InDesign experience preferred.
• Possess strong organizational and communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work alone or with a team.
• Able to meet deadlines.
