Responsibilities
- Design of new products and test hardware
- Improvement of existing products
- Utilize mechanical engineering expertise during proposal and concept generation, product development, production, and qualification testing phases
- Develop creative solutions meeting product requirements
- Proficient with 3D modeling and drafting, supporting production, integration, and testing
- Leverage COTS products paired with custom hardware
- Engage vendors, manufacturers, and SMEs regarding design decisions
- Participate in design reviews at part, subsystem, and system levels including Peer Reviews, DFMAs, PDRs, and CDRs
- Provide leadership on mechanical designs and mentorship to junior engineers
- Work closely with systems, electrical, test, and production engineers
- Leverage strong verbal and written communication to adapt to high-pressure situations
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related STEM degree program
- US Citizenship with ability to obtain DoD Secret level clearance
- Professional work experience of at least 5 years, including design, integration, or testing of mechanical components and assemblies
- Competent in 3-D CAD Modeling Tools (CREO preferred)
- Working knowledge of data management systems (Windchill preferred)
- Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5 standards)
- Strong planning and organizational skills, adaptable to changing priorities and assignments
- Performing trade studies
- Self-starter, quick learner, adaptable to dynamic environments, good time management skills
- Good teaming and communication skills
- Demonstrated creative thinking and problem-solving
- Understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, water jet, laser, welding, EDM, additive manufacturing, etc.
- Understanding of aerospace materials and coatings
