Mechanical Engineer 3/4

About the role

This position will be located at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility in the Laboratories Department.

Responsibilities

• Conducting of hazardous liquids, gasses or cryogenic testing involving a variety of test methods, temperatures, pressures, and test configurations.
• Preparation of detailed work instruction documents, including direction and oversight for mechanical technicians in a union environment.
• Management of pressure systems to ASME and NASA site specific requirements, including designing and maintaining pressure systems to include flow, pressure, compatibility, and stress calculations to allow for safe personnel operation.
• Preparation and presentation of informal and formal briefings to the customer and internal management.
• Supporting other Laboratory Department groups, such as Oxygen Group or Hypervelocity, depending on department workload demands.

Qualifications

• Education level Engineering or Science related Bachelors degree at a minimum. Masters degree is a plus.
• Experience (5+) Years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering field, or equivalent.
• Project Lead experience, MS Project experience.
• Hazardous Testing systems experience.
• Hypergolic propellant experience.
• Cryogenic media experience.
• Ordinance Handler experience.
• Hazard assessment skills.
• Basic computational tools (Excel, MathCad, AutoCAD, etc.).
