Mechanical Drafter/ CAD Technician

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Drafter to join our hardware development team. In this role, you will create detailed technical drawings and 3D models for mechanical components and assemblies used in our robotic systems. You will sit at the interface of design and production, translating engineering concepts and specifications into precise, manufacturable documentation that guides our fabrication and assembly processes. The position is a contract role based out of New York, NY, requiring onsite work.

This role involves working closely with mechanical designers in a dynamic environment focused on building robots. The position requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to produce error-free documentation. The work typically involves complex parts, with feedback loops to vendors and internal teams. The work involves using 3D CAD to prepare and finalize drawings before production.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed technical drawings and 3D models for mechanical components and assemblies.
• Translate engineering concepts and specifications into precise, manufacturable documentation.
• Collaborate with mechanical designers on CAD dimensioning and drawings.
• Provide dimensioning and tolerancing feedback within 24 hours.
• Update drawings based on vendor feedback.
• Prepare mechanical designs in 3D CAD before sending them to manufacture.

Skills

• 2+ years of experience as a mechanical drafter or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software for mechanical part and assembly modeling, with strong preference for Onshape
