Responsibilities
- Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes.
- Receive direction on all aspects of assignments, specific tasks and how to execute.
- Work is thoroughly reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles.
- Work closely with more senior staff members to learn and assist in design work.
- Aid in the preparation of mechanical and plumbing construction documents for restaurant and retail projects, including HVAC systems, kitchen exhaust and make-up air systems, grease waste systems, domestic water distribution, and sanitary drainage systems.
- Cook with architects, clients, equipment vendors, and other engineering disciplines to support project delivery schedules and maintain consistency with brand standards.
- Apply knowledge of restaurant and retail operational requirements to support efficient and code-compliant design solutions.
- Transform initial sketches and rough product designs into working documents using CAD or other mechanical design software.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to integrate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, and other plan components.
- Utilize design tools, networks, tool palettes, and templates to complete design work.
- Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create accurate and comprehensive mechanical and plumbing drawings and diagrams.
- Verify accuracy of models and/or drawings for compliance with intended design concepts, customer specifications, standard manufacturing practices, and applicable code standards.
- Aid in the preparation of necessary documents.
- Assist senior level staff or management with clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams on moderately complex project issues, providing design support and problem solving.
- Work closely with project manager to determine if scope of work or budgets need to be revised.
- Attend group meetings regarding projects.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.
- An associate’s degree in mechanical drafting and/or design preferred.
- Entry level position, no prior experience required.
- Any drafting and engineering technician experience in mechanical, plumbing or construction industry a plus.
- Experience with computer applications and mechanical engineering design software such as AutoCAD or REVIT, and familiarity with reading construction plans.
- Ability to process engineering changes to existing drawings preferred.
- Knowledge of design and drafting procedures preferred.
- Design experience to include successfully creating 3-D mechanical models and/or to create drawings from 3-D models.
