Mechanical Designer Drafter

Pay

$65‑$70 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed technical drawings and 3D models for mechanical components and assemblies used in robotic systems.
• Translate engineering concepts and specifications into precise, manufacturable documentation.
• Work with mechanical designers, vendors, and production teams to provide CAD dimensioning, drawing feedback, and updates.
• Produce drawings for complicated parts with rapid turnaround (e.g., feedback within 24 hours).
• Prepare 3D CAD models and drawings before manufacturing, ensuring proper dimensioning and tolerancing.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience as a mechanical drafter or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software for mechanical part and assembly modeling; Onshape experience strongly preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T principles and practical application.
• Solid understanding of mechanical tolerancing, fits (clearance, transition, interference), and surface‑finish specifications.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14 series and/or ISO drawing standards.
• Ability to interpret engineering sketches and translate them into formal production drawings.
• Understanding of common manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, casting) and their impact on drawing requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce error‑free documentation.
• Required software: Onshape, GD&T.
• Preferred software: Arena, SolidWorks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Onshape (cloud‑based CAD platform).
• Exposure to electromechanical assemblies or robotic systems.
• Experience creating drawings for hand‑built or low‑volume production environments.
• Familiarity with revision control systems and engineering change order (ECO) processes.
