Mechanical Designer/drafter
This role will be based in the Waco, TX area and involves supporting the design, modification, and documentation of hardware used in test operations and ground support systems.
About the role
We are seeking a CAD Drafter/Designer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers to translate concepts and designs into detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings. The ideal candidate will have experience creating production-ready drawings, managing revisions, and thriving in fast-paced engineering environments where designs quickly move from concept to fabrication.
Responsibilities
- Create and revise detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings for mechanical systems and Ground Support Equipment.
- Generate fabrication and manufacturing drawing packages including dimensions, tolerances, BOMs, and assembly documentation.
- Partner with mechanical, fluids, and test engineers to incorporate design changes and engineering feedback.
- Maintain drawing accuracy and configuration control throughout the design lifecycle.
- Support the release of drawing packages for fabrication, installation, and testing activities.
- Ensure designs are complete and clear enough for fabrication teams to build from without additional clarification.
- Update and modify legacy drawings as required to support ongoing test operations and hardware improvements.
- Participate in design reviews and document updates from review feedback.
- Work in a highly collaborative environment with engineering, fabrication, and test teams.
Requirements
- Design and drafting skills with at least 1 year of experience (including internships).
- Experience producing mechanical fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
- Proficiency with CAD software (NX preferred, AutoCAD not preferred).
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, concepts, and technical requirements into detailed drawings.
- Experience creating assembly drawings, detail drawings, and bill of materials documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple design revisions.
- Familiarity with fluid systems, piping, tubing, mechanical assemblies, or structural hardware.
Work Environment
This position requires on-site work from Monday to Friday, with occasional weekends. Work hours can be extensive, up to 60 hours per week. The environment is fast-paced and engineering-focused, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate directly with engineers and fabrication personnel. The role involves working with Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, Catia, and piping design and routing.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
