Mechanical Designer
Contract to Hire position based in Poway, CA. Position is anticipated to close on Sep 7, 2026.
About the role
As a Mechanical Designer, you will create mechanical assembly drawings for inverter products, power conversion systems, and related subassemblies. You will generate manufacturing documentation using existing Creo CAD models, engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and work instructions. Your role involves developing exploded assembly views, fabrication drawings, installation documentation, and visual manufacturing aids. You will create and maintain production-ready assembly documentation to support manufacturing, service, and production teams, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Create mechanical assembly drawings for inverter products and power conversion systems.
- Generate manufacturing documentation using Creo CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
- Develop exploded assembly views, fabrication drawings, installation documentation, and visual manufacturing aids.
- Maintain production-ready assembly documentation to support manufacturing, service, and production teams.
- Verify documentation against released engineering drawings and CAD models for accuracy and compliance.
- Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and update revision-controlled documentation.
- Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and production teams to enhance documentation quality and usability.
- Create documentation for sheet metal, machined, welded, plastic, and electromechanical assemblies.
- Develop assembly instructions involving fasteners, adhesives, sealants, gasketing, and related processes.
- Organize and maintain engineering documentation within PLM and document management systems.
Requirements
- Proficiency with Creo CAD.
- Experience with 2D drawing creation, mechanical assembly drawings, and GD&T.
- Ability to perform tolerance analysis and callouts.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Experience with BOM interpretation and manufacturing documentation.
- Ability to create production-ready drawing packages.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in creating mechanical assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, BOMs, specifications, and revision-controlled documentation.
- Understanding of GD&T and mechanical drafting standards.
- Experience in supporting manufacturing, production, or industrial environments.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, plastic molding, and mechanical assembly processes.
- Understanding of adhesives, sealants, gasketing, and assembly best practices.
- Familiarity with PLM systems, preferably Windchill.
- Experience with ECOs, engineering change management, and document control processes.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Work Environment
The role involves working in a dynamic environment with a focus on mechanical design and documentation. You will use technologies such as Creo CAD and work with PLM systems like Windchill. The position demands attention to detail and the ability to work independently, often in collaboration with mechanical, manufacturing, and production teams.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
