About the role

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for researching, planning, designing, and developing mechanical products and systems, including instruments, controls, engines, and machines used in energy production, transmission, and measurement. This early-career role applies broad theoretical knowledge and requires the ability to investigate and analyze problems, with solutions typically discussed or verified with a more senior member.

This position operates within the Order Related Engineering (ORE) department and focuses on understanding project scope to develop Submittal Packages. These packages include mechanical design, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, and mechanical components specific to individual sales orders. The role involves collaboration with Motor Control Designers and the ORE Manager to compile and coordinate Submittal Packages, manage the customer approval process, and ensure timely feedback and resolution. Upon approval, the Mechanical Engineer generates fabrication drawings, creates part numbers in the ERP system, and releases the finalized package to production. The role also provides mechanical engineering expertise to Tendering by reviewing project specifications and offering recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Review project scope and specifications and organize hand-off meetings to ensure alignment and clarity.
  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and general arrangement drawings specific to sales orders using Autodesk Inventor; maintain associated files within the Autodesk Vault management system.
  • Create and manage submittal packages through the customer approval process, ensuring timely and accurate release.
  • Update and maintain sales order workflows within the Visual ERP system.
  • Review and verify mechanical drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) prepared by other team members within the ORE department to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct mechanical specification reviews to support tendering activities, as assigned by the ORE Manager.
  • Provide mechanical engineering support to other departments as directed by the ORE Manager.
  • Assist Production and field service technicians by offering mechanical support during fabrication and product installation.
  • Perform additional duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Responsibility: Makes decisions related to mechanical design, drawing creation, BOM verification, and coordination between departments. Manages the customer submittal approval process and supports Operations.
  • Delegation: May delegate tasks such as drawing checks and BOM verification to other team members within the ORE department, under the guidance of the ORE Manager.
  • Approval Process: Approves mechanical components and drawings before release to production; participates in the customer approval process for Submittals.
  • Consensus: Participates in consensus decision-making during cross-functional meetings (e.g., Tendering and Operations) to ensure alignment.
  • Automated Decisions: Utilizes Visual ERP system, AutoCAD, Vault Engineering Sizing Tools, and Vault to support decision-making related to BOM creation and workflow updates.

Key Performance Indicators

  • On-time delivery (OTD) of Submittal Packages.
  • Accuracy of submittal packages, drawings, and bills of materials (BOM).
