Mechanical Design Engineers Level 2/3
About the role
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking Mechanical Design Engineers Level 2/3 to join the Marine Systems organization in Ocean Springs, MS or Cape Canaveral, FL. This role supports rapid growth in the Launcher Hardware organization, working on innovative launcher hardware for weapons systems on Navy platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop design concepts and generate solid models that reflect those concepts
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders balancing technical, schedule, and cost requirements
- Conduct trade studies to select and evaluate best design approaches to fulfill requirements
- Oversee the generation of engineering drawings using common GD&T practices
- Identify procurement needs and support fabrication
- Provide assembly checkout and test support
- Generate task plans and support proposal efforts
- Occasional domestic travel may be required
Qualifications
Level 2: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline with 2 years relevant work experience; or Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with no relevant work experience.
Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years relevant work experience; or Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years relevant work experience.
Required skills
- Experience in machine design and drawing generation
- Ability to plan tasks and execute to the established schedule
- US citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
- Must be onsite 4 days a week; remote work is not an option for this role
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with CAD modeling (NX, CREO, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
- Experience in ASME Y14.5 GD&T Standard and ASME Y14.100 Dimensioning, Tolerancing, and Engineering Drawing Practices
- Experience in developing design concepts, performing trade studies, and conducting evaluations and analyses
- Strong background in machine design, strength of materials, and materials technology
- Experience in technical presentation
- Experience in production support
- Experience in working with vendors and suppliers
- An active DOD Secret clearance
Pay
- Level 2: $72,100 - $108,100
- Level 3: $89,400 - $134,200
Schedule
Must be onsite 4 days a week; remote work is not an option for this role. Travel: Yes, 10% of the time.
