Mechanical Design Engineer (Data Center)
About the role
Jacobs is seeking an energetic Mechanical Designer to focus on the fast-moving Data Center market. This role involves delivering innovative plumbing design solutions for Data Center clients, working alongside a team of engineers and designers performing field investigations, interfacing with clients and vendors, sizing and selecting equipment, and preparing construction design packages. The selected candidate will be accountable for the schedule and technical quality of challenging engineering tasks while gaining familiarity with client expectations, scope, budget, and schedule. This position is available at any location in the United States, with preference for candidates near a Jacobs U.S. based office.
Responsibilities
- Layout and design of HVAC systems for data center designs
- Development of the design criteria for HVAC systems, including general comfort heating and cooling, systems with accurate temperature or humidity control, unique pressurization requirements, and critical cooling system designs for data center applications
- Development of conceptual design and preliminary design documents, including flow diagrams and general arrangements
- Layout of Ductwork systems based on a Process and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID)
- Development of final design documents including specification, piping layout, and final construction documents associated with chilled water, cooling water, and related systems
- Mentoring of less experienced staff
Qualifications
- At least 8 years' experience in the design of HVAC systems for industrial facilities
- Proficiency in Revit
- Thorough knowledge of codes and standards related to the design of HVAC systems
- Adaptability to work within a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines
- Ability to collaborate with the project team remotely
Skills
- Software experience in AutoCAD, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace 700, and Trane Trace 3D
- Experience in the design of mechanical/plumbing/utility systems

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $102,900.00 to $141,500.00, with individual pay determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Schedule
Jacobs operates with a hybrid working policy, allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations.
