Job#: 3044626 Job Description: Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Austin, Texas (On-site) Role Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support a cost-savings initiative focused on transitioning sheet metal manufacturing from external suppliers to an in-house production line. This role is centered on the design engineering function, requiring the modification and updating of existing product models and drawings to align with new in-house equipment. You will work closely with Manufacturing and Operations Engineering to ensure designs are optimized for production. Key Responsibilities Modify and update existing SolidWorks sheet metal models and 2D drawings to align with the capabilities of in-house laser cutters and press brakes.Adjust SolidWorks sheet metal features, K-factors, and bend deductions to match in-house tooling and material specifications.Manage design changes and file lifecycles using SmarTeam PDM to maintain configuration control.Update engineering documentation and multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) in Oracle ERP to reflect the transition of components from "Buy" to "Make" status.Validate prototype and sample parts by reviewing inspection data and auditing physical assemblies to confirm form, fit, and function.Collaborate with Manufacturing and Operations Engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.Package and deliver finalized, production-ready drawing packages to the Manufacturing Engineering group. Required Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical engineering.A minimum of 4 years of experience in the design of fabricated and formed sheet metal parts.Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, specifically with the Sheet Metal module.A strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.Experience working in a manufacturing environment or on a production floor.Demonstrated experience with prototype parts, supplier collaboration, and production validation.Deep understanding of sheet metal fabrication principles, including flat pattern development and the influence of press brake tooling on part geometry.Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Preferred Qualifications Experience designing for Trumpf fabrication equipment is desirable.Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication equipment and workflows.
