About the role
UCT is a fast-growing sector in the world, directly impacting every semiconductor chip used in smartphones, smart cars, and AI devices. This role is crucial for the semiconductor industry, evolving alongside technological advancements. As a Mechanical Design Engineer II, you will play a pivotal role in designing tooling, jigs, and equipment for various chemical and coating processes.
Responsibilities
- Create custom tooling, jigs, and fixtures using CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo), ensuring precision, repeatability, and compliance with manufacturability standards.
- Incorporate material recommendations, cost analysis, GD&T, and tolerance considerations into design decisions.
- Create a Preventive Maintenance plan for tooling and equipment.
- Develop jigs for coating processes to protect critical surfaces and maintain structural integrity under high temperature applications.
- Use FEA and other CAD tools to validate mechanical performance under chemical exposure, stress, vibration, or ergonomic constraints.
- Iterate designs based on simulation data to optimize safety and durability.
- Ensure all designs facilitate efficient manufacturing, considering fabrication methods (CNC, molding, coatings), assembly, ergonomics, cost, and maintainability.
- Apply ergonomic principles to reduce operator strain and improve safety.
- Develop and maintain process equipment requirements and specifications.
- Develop and maintain process equipment work procedures (preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance).
- Develop and implement training materials, examinations, and certifications regarding process equipment maintenance and operations.
- Engage with production, quality, procurement, and safety teams to align tooling with process needs and regulatory standards.
- Support manufacturing by resolving tool-related issues and overseeing repairs or modifications.
- Documentation and Compliance
- Produce detailed technical drawings, BOMs, ECOs, and maintenance instructions.
- Maintain design revision history and documentation for safety and regulatory audit purposes.
Requirements
- A minimum B.Sc. degree in a sub-field of engineering, mechanical preferred, materials from an accredited college or university.
- At least 1 year working as an Mechanical Engineer, and/or technically oriented Design Engineer is required, 3 years of experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Superior leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
- High level troubleshooting skills coupled with hands-on approach to solving problems.
- Familiarity with "Six Sigma", "Lean Manufacturing" concepts and other process improvement methods and approaches.
- Knowledge and engineering approach in mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics and chemicals.
- Ability to read drawings and identify critical quality characteristics.
- Familiarity with wet chemistry processing, semiconductor tool consumables, semiconductor technology, critical cleaning technology, semiconductor processing, coating technologies, and CAD implementation including failure analysis software.
- Able to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the organization.
- Able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
