About the Role

Storyteller Overland is seeking a highly motivated entry-level Mechanical Assembly Technician to work on 4WD Expedition Vehicle Chassis Assembly. You will collaborate with the technical team on projects including prototype builds, chassis upgrades (such as four-wheel-drive conversions, hydraulic suspension upgrades, and chassis modifications), and assembling living quarters cabs to chassis. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, a passion for off-road vehicles, camping, and overlanding, and a desire to learn daily.

Responsibilities

• Perform upgrades to suspension systems on Sprinter chassis to improve handling, performance, and load capacity.
• Ensure all components are installed to manufacturer and company specifications, prioritizing safety and reliability.
• Install four-wheel-drive conversion kits, including drivetrain components, transfer cases, and axles; verify proper alignment, torque specifications, and operational function.
• Modify chassis and cab structures to accommodate the specialized requirements of expedition vehicles.
• Install and secure custom aftermarket components such as bumpers, grills, storage racks, storage boxes, and winches.
• Safely remove and mount tires using appropriate tools and equipment; perform balancing or alignment checks to ensure safe vehicle operation.
• Install sub-frames onto vehicle chassis to provide structural support for expedition vehicle living quarters.
• Mount and connect diesel heaters and hydronic heating systems to vehicle chassis, ensuring proper fuel, coolant, and electrical connections.
• Conduct basic engine work, including fluid checks, oil changes, and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Perform light fabrication, such as cutting, grinding, drilling, or welding, to modify or produce brackets, mounts, or other parts needed for installations.
• Work independently without direct supervision while assisting team members with fabrication, installation, and testing tasks.
• Partner with the Engineering team to troubleshoot issues during builds; provide feedback on design challenges and recommend practical solutions.
• Read and interpret detailed mechanical drawings, schematics, and diagrams to execute builds according to engineering and design specifications.
• Use common and precision measuring instruments (e.g., tape measures, vernier calipers, laser levels) to verify tolerances, ensure accuracy, and maintain quality standards.
• Uphold Storyteller’s reputation by building products with the care and precision expected by the vanlife and adventure community.
• Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

Requirements

• Ability to address and rectify quality issues or defects in the production process promptly.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and production efficiency.
• Manage inventory levels of raw materials, hardware, and supplies; coordinate with purchasing departments to avoid production delays.
• Optimize resource allocation to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
• Enforce safety regulations and ensure adherence to safety guidelines; conduct safety training and maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications

• AAS Technical/Trade degree or associate degree preferred, and/or relevant experience.
• Automotive experience is required; diesel training is preferred but not required.
• General knowledge of computers, electrical assembly, basic electronic troubleshooting, mechanical assembly and repair, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and/or audio-visual equipment operation.
• Ability to read electrical/mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
• Willingness and ability to learn additional technical skills within the automotive and manufacturing industries.
• Able to follow process instructions accurately and consistently.
• Proficiency in handling various tools (e.g., pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g., lift).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Self-motivated, responsible, and adaptable with a flexible attitude.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid certification (e.g., ASE) is a plus.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Physical Requirements

Schedule
