Mechanical Assembler

About the role

Under direct supervision, perform basic mechanical assembly operations on production units.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret basic blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, and work orders to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions
• Assist with or assemble basic sections of machines to customer specifications; attach unit to assembly, subassembly, or frame using various hand and power tools
• Perform basic mechanical assembly operations to exacting tolerances; position and align parts using fixtures, jigs, and templates; work with rotating shafts, gear trains, mechanical structures, and sprockets
• Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and spot face bolt holes in parts; file, lap, and buff parts to fit; clean and lubricate parts and subassemblies
• Use measuring instruments to level and align work, detect and eliminate run-out, work to close tolerances with a demand for square, concentricity, and parallelism
• Assist with the detection of defective material, unusual conditions, or operating difficulties and report to supervisor
• Attend team meetings; may provide input on quality, cost, or production issues
• Regularly and effectively communicate and interact with other team members
• Regular and predictable attendance at the worksite and on any assigned shift or work schedule is required for this position, as is the ability to work frequent overtime; this is not a remote position
• Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
• Maintain work area and equipment in clean, orderly, and safe manner

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Military, trade school, or community college coursework in mechanical assembly, repair, and troubleshooting desired

Physical Requirements

This position requires a high level of physical flexibility, strength, and stamina, including the ability to:

• Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
• See and assess drawings, photos, and written instructions
• Audibly hear verbal instructions and mechanical signals (forklifts, cranes, machine alarms, etc.)
• Speak, read, write, and communicate effectively
