About the role
As a Mechanical Applications Engineer, you will work alongside other bid team members to design, price, and propose opportunities to our customers. This role involves concepting and creating manifests required to bid integration and products, supporting the bid development process from RFP receipt to proposal submission.
Responsibilities
- Create concepts and manifests within the scope of customer requirements as outlined in their RFP within the given timeframe.
- Support the bid development process, including aiding the creation of RFQ packages for vendors and writing technical Statements of Work (SOW) for proposals.
- Demonstrate expertise in material handling system design, equipment technology, and operational processes.
- Lead design efforts based on client requests for material handling systems using their data or working through requirements to create system solutions that solve client issues, enhance processing efficiency, and support end-user requirements.
- Provide technical expertise during the sales phase to showcase Körber’s capability in developing industry-leading solutions and build trust with clients.
- Support multiple client projects ranging from $100K to $250M.
- Conduct external and internal meetings with clients as required.
- Create, utilize, and explain the Material Flow Calculator to develop the Basis of Design (BOD).
- Serve as a subject matter expert on various types of material handling equipment to ensure the best possible solution.
- Work with clients to create a weighted Selection Criteria Matrix driving optimal solution selections for end users and Körber.
- Create Process Flow Diagrams and Material Flow Diagrams.
- Ensure mechanical system designs align with electrical control capabilities supporting solution requirements.
- Create Basis of Design and Description of Operation documents.
- Provide mechanical support for system and product simulation and emulation testing.
- After award, work with the assigned execution team and operations to successfully hand off the project.
Requirements
- Ability to understand core customer specifications.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D and Navisworks for layouts, system concepts, design modifications, modeling, and drafting.
- Experience designing, configuring, and supporting mechanical systems for industrial, automation, conveyor, robotics, or intralogistics applications.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings, schematics, specifications, and bills of materials.
- Understanding of system integration, including interfaces between mechanical, electrical, controls, and software components.
- Familiarity with engineering standards, safety requirements, and industry best practices.
- Experience working directly with customers, sales teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to support pre-sales and post-sales activities.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong collaboration skills when working with sales, project management, manufacturing, and service teams.
- Results-oriented mindset with a focus on customer satisfaction and solution quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare technical documentation, proposals, presentations, and application notes.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline required.
- Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering or application engineering roles within industrial, automation, material handling, or supply chain solutions environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting customer-specific mechanical solutions, including system design, configuration, and technical feasibility assessments.
- Prior experience working in pre-sales, application engineering, or solution development in collaboration with sales and project teams.
- Hands-on experience with industrial systems such as conveyors, automated material handling systems, robotics, or intralogistics solutions strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting projects across the full lifecycle, from concept development and proposal support through implementation and commissioning.
- Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment preferred.
Additional Requirements
- 25% travel required, both domestically and internationally, as dictated by business needs.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain all required travel documentation, including a valid passport where international travel is necessary.
- Must be able to lawfully enter and exit the United States and other countries required for business travel.
- Must not have any legal or regulatory restrictions that would prevent the issuance, renewal, or use of required travel documents, or otherwise limit the ability to fulfill travel requirements.
