Location: Wright, WY 82732 – North Antelope Rochelle Mine (NARM), the largest surface coal mine in the US, producing high-quality thermal coal with approximately 465 million tons of reserves. About The Role
Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance on fixed and mobile plant in an open-cut mining environment. This role supports Peabody’s safety-first culture, aiming for zero recordable MSHA injuries or incidents.
Responsibilities
- Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values
- Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
- Inspect work area and plant for hazards, damage, and defects
- Examine drawings or specifications to determine work methods, sequence of activities, or manufacture of components
- Diagnose faults or breakdowns
- Estimate time and materials required to complete jobs
- Raise orders for materials
- Undertake repairs or component changeouts as required
- Clean and maintain tools and work area
- Train other personnel or apprentices (if required)
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements
- Other duties as assigned by the company
Requirements
- Three years of heavy equipment maintenance experience in mining preferred
- Ability to read and understand written instructions, parts catalogs, maintenance manuals, operator’s manuals, blueprints, and schematics
- Ability to perform mechanical repair and preventive maintenance on all types of heavy mining equipment and light vehicles
- Ability to solve problems and troubleshoot maintenance situations
- Ability to operate oxygen/acetylene cutting torch and perform arc welding with low hydrogen electrodes preferred
- Ability to perform maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and servicing on large mining equipment
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals and part books
- Ability to read and use low voltage (24V) electrical, air, and hydraulic schematics in performing repairs
- Ability to rebuild air valves and perform adjustments on air system governors
- Ability to operate auxiliary equipment such as forklifts and overhead shop cranes
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and at different times of day
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as required by business need, including rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime
- Ability to train others
- Trade certificate preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
- Ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps, and climb on and off equipment and ladders
- Ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs with good hand-to-eye coordination
- Ability to lift/raise 10–50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
- Ability to work in extreme conditions, including changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise levels, varying light conditions, and confined work areas
Schedule
This position may require working weekends, holidays, or other shifts as deemed necessary, including days, evenings, nights, rotating schedules, and overtime.
