Description

Adams Construction Company is one of the oldest asphalt paving firms in Virginia. Responsibilities

  • Cleans, greases and assists in setting up, adjusting, repairing various types of off road/ on road equipment and motor vehicles.
  • Makes temporary operation of any equipment on a temporary basis for trouble shooting and adjustment analysis. Manipulates hand and power tools to perform maintenance adjustments.
  • Inspects brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Uses hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Adjusts and relines brakes, aligns wheels, tightens bolts and screws, and reassembles equipment.
  • Examines and adjusts protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Performs routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Tests drives trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure they are working properly.
  • Raises trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Attaches test instruments to equipment, and reads dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Rebuilds gas or diesel engines.
  • Inspects and verifies dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Processes written and oral analysis reports for recordkeeping.
  • Works independently in the absence of supervision and maintains a cooperative working relationship with coworkers and the general public.

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • The ability to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • The ability to detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
  • CDL preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Minimum five (5) years experience
