About the role
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered equipment, trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, supporting fleet reliability, and maintaining compliance with company safety standards and DOT regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on diesel trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues
- Repair or replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and fuel systems
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure equipment meets DOT and company safety standards
- Complete work orders, maintenance records, and repair documentation accurately and timely
- Operate diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized repair equipment safely and effectively
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Communicate equipment issues and repair timelines with supervisors and operations teams
- Auxiliary tasks may include assisting with inventory control and parts management as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical school certification or diesel mechanic training preferred
- 2+ years of diesel maintenance or heavy equipment repair experience preferred
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance practices
- Experience working with Class A or B commercial vehicles preferred
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documents
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
