About the Role
Performs assigned work relative to body maintenance and inspection of motor vehicles for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Services Division.
Responsibilities
- Repair vehicles damaged in accidents, including working with sheet metal, structural steel, wood, and other materials.
- Operate a variety of metal and woodworking machinery and tools to fabricate body parts and components.
- Prepare vehicles for painting, including sanding, and paint vehicles on an as-needed or scheduled basis.
- Replace seat upholstery, repair and replace vehicle flooring, windshields, and windows.
- Perform preventative maintenance of vehicles as scheduled.
- Change tires, fuel, and/or clean vehicles as required.
- Make road/service calls as required; operate DART vehicles if necessary.
- Promote established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Automotive Body Repair Technology, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Must pass a technical test.
- Must have a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger Endorsement. Requirements include:
- No DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months.
- Not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record.
- Not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months.
- Must obtain CDL within ninety (90) days upon hire.
- Must pass and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination, including a pre-employment drug test, and submit to Federal Transportation Administration-required random drug/alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment.
- Ability to be mobile and occasionally work 70% - 80% of the time.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to seventy (70) pounds, such as tools, equipment, and parts.
- Must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces.
- Ability to find solutions to mechanical and technical problems.
- Able to operate DART multi-axle vehicles, trucks, and service equipment as required.
- Proficiency with personal computers (PC) and software applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
- Ability to promote a positive and inclusive work culture.
- Ability to make decisions in the absence of guidance and plan and carry out work assignments where procedures are established.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse customer population under pressure.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Effective oral communication skills with the public, co-workers, supervisors, and managers to ensure efficient operations, promote safety, and respond to emergencies.
- Ability to read and comprehend a variety of work-related technical manuals, safety rules, and regulations.
- Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and be available on short notice.
- May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
- Ability to use standard devices weighing up to 50 lbs, such as hand tools and portable shop test equipment.

- May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions, including dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, while following all safety policies, precautions, and using protective clothing and devices provided.
