Mechanic

About the Role

This position performs preventative maintenance and repairs on Wayne County Public Schools vehicles and lawn equipment, orders materials, maintains inventory, and ensures a clean work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on all WCPS vehicles
• Repair lawn equipment including riding mowers, tractors, push mowers, weed eaters, and blowers
• Order materials and maintain inventory for preventative maintenance
• Maintain a clean work environment
• Troubleshoot lawn mowers and vehicle issues
• Replace faulty parts
• Repair vehicles throughout the county

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) diploma
• Education and/or experience in mechanical work directly related to the job
• Ability to bend, push, pull, and lift at least 50 lbs
• Current driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to operate power tools and lawn equipment

A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus but not required.

Skills

• Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance
• Ability to use power tools
• Ability to make repairs on lawn mowers
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Terms of Employment

12-month work year, at-will employment, FLSA Non-Exempt.

Starting salary at Grade 61.
