Mechanic

About the role

The Mechanic, under the direction of the Operations Manager, is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and general repairs on company fleet vehicles and equipment, including tractors, trailers, tankers, bobtail trucks, and select plant equipment. This role plays a critical part in supporting day-to-day operations by ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and compliance with Company standards and DOT regulations.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair light to medium trucks and trailers, including preventative maintenance, inspections, repair to air and hydraulic brakes, tires, warranty procedures, driveline, steering and suspension, electrical, mobile AC refrigeration, and overhaul and engine rebuilds, with safety as the top priority.
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve tractor and trailer related issues.
• Diagnose and repair trailer components such as doors, floors, lids, valves, hoses, and side panels.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractor and trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
• Remain technically proficient in all areas of the shop including tractor, trailer, tire, and basic parts administration.
• Perform general or routine welding with or without prints.
• Use effective interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships with team members, all unit personnel and external vendors.
• Contribute to the goals and values of the leadership team and Company as a whole.
• Utilize appropriate resources, such as the parts manual and computer, service bulletins and other resources to research problems, determine most effective and efficient method for repair and locate parts.
• Document work order details within the Company’s internal order and billing program.
• Abide by all Company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in light to medium duty truck and equipment repair.
• Ability to demonstrate welding skills in non-standard situations and on varying materials (preferred).
• Must possess and maintain a clean driving record.
• Must provide and maintain required personal tools.

Certifications

• Technical school certification in diesel engines, electronics, or a related field preferred.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) preferred but not required.
