This role supports the maintenance team by performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on industrial machinery to ensure smooth and safe operations. The Machinery Mechanic identifies mechanical issues and assists in equipment upkeep, following established procedures under close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Read job cards to determine job status, work authorization/limitations, estimate, description of problems, and/or expected serviceability.
  • Test electro-mechanical equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods (AC or DC).
  • Disassemble electro-mechanical equipment, noting parts identification, configuration, and condition.
  • Clean electro-mechanical equipment assemblies using methods such as parts washers/steamers, caustic tanks, or glass beaders.
  • Measure or note proper replacement parts and requisition needed items from the storekeeper, as approved by a supervisor.
  • Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies, including bearings, brushes, brush holders, motor leads, gears, seals, impellers, mechanical switches, brakes, clutches, clutch rotors, tachs, fans, and end shields.
  • Retest reassembled electro-mechanical equipment for proper output and operation.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Operate specialized repair and testing equipment as needed.
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear, especially eye and ear protection.
  • Lift, tighten, adjust, and/or secure heavy objects to perform work duties.
  • Maintain a neat and clean work area as directed by a supervisor.
  • Assist other mechanics or shop personnel in skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by a supervisor or shop manager.
  • Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to understand, perform, and retain various skill-related training, operational, and safety procedures demonstrated by a supervisor.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk, hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
