Join our team as a Diesel Mechanic in Paramus, NJ, ensuring the reliability and safety of buses serving over 500,000 passenger rides annually between Rockland County and Westchester County.
About the Role
Diesel Mechanics are the backbone of our fleet, combining technical expertise with precision to keep our buses running smoothly. You’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and related systems, ensuring passenger safety and vehicle longevity.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and other vehicle breakdowns using diagnostic tools.
- Perform removal, installation, disassembly, and reconditioning of diesel engine components (Cummins and Detroit engines).
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance according to manufacturers' specifications.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance meet or exceed industry standards, including test drives for safety and performance.
- Document detailed inspection reports, repair plans, and electronic maintenance logs.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment while adhering to all workplace safety policies.
- Work in all weather conditions, including outdoors, and be available for weekends/holidays as needed.
Requirements
- Solid background in diesel mechanics, with experience on Cummins and Detroit engines preferred.
- ASE Diesel Certification or associate degree in diesel technology is a plus but not mandatory.
- Willingness to obtain a CDL.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to implement mechanical solutions.
- Computer diagnostic skills are beneficial; training provided.
- Own the necessary tools to perform maintenance duties independently.
- Motor Coach Industry experience is a plus.
- Commitment to safety standards and teamwork.
Pay
Class A: Up to $30.05/hour
Class B: Up to $27.20/hour (compensation based on experience).
