About the Role

This role has a preference for qualified local job seekers within 60 miles of our Axis Hennessey, OK facility. The primary role of the Equipment Mechanic is to maintain and repair a variety of equipment, including diesel engines, heavy trucks, workover rigs, pumping equipment, lifting equipment, and other rig and drill-out oilfield-related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, diagnoses, repairs, inspects, assembles, and rebuilds equipment across various categories, including engines, powertrains, rig and pump equipment, hydraulic/pneumatic/electrical systems, and lifting/material-handling equipment.
  • Executes preventive maintenance procedures and inspections as required by Axis and customers.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Repairs and refurbishes hydraulic power equipment.
  • Installs and replaces new or reconditioned repair parts.
  • Reads and follows repair manuals to perform repairs.
  • Operates and maintains power equipment and lifting devices, conducting basic testing for proper operation.
  • Orders parts as necessary with prior approval.
  • Troubleshoots breakdowns and issues on various types of oilfield well-service equipment.
  • Performs proper diagnosis based on troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
  • Conducts routine maintenance and repair work, including engine and transmission overhauls.
  • Repairs and maintains machinery and rotating equipment.
  • Disassembles and reassembles non-working equipment to like-new working condition, followed by safety and operational checks.
  • Works as part of a team with shop and field crews, assisting other maintenance employees as needed.
  • Completes proper paperwork as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; Certification from trade or technical school in maintenance or Diesel repair highly preferred.
  • Five (5) years or more of solid and proven work experience on oilfield equipment or similar field with diesel engines and hydraulics.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license; Class A or B license preferred.
  • Strong and proven hydraulic knowledge, including experience with complex hydraulic systems (open loop and closed loop).
  • Experience with laptop-based software for troubleshooting (e.g., CAT Electronic Technician, CUMMINS INSIGHT, ALLISON TRANS, MACK TECH TOOL, DETROIT DDEC, MTU).
  • Experience with specific equipment: CAT C-15, Cat C-32, Detroit 14 liter, MTU 16v2000 tier 2 and tier 4, CM 850 Cummins Qsx 15, Allison 750 series, 4750 OFS, 6000, and 8000 series trans, Cotta drop boxes, Cooper right angle boxes, 224 twin disk Air clutches.
  • Ability to demonstrate safe work habits and work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work at heights up to 50 ft, and perform physical tasks such as standing, squatting, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and use protective equipment.
  • Basic problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Reliable telephone (cell phone) communication and transportation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Lift up to 75 lbs frequently; team lift or mechanical assistance for heavier loads.
  • Stand approximately 7 hours, walk 3 hours, and sit 1 hour during a typical 10-hour shift.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, crawl, climb, reach, push, pull, and use fine motor skills.
  • Work at heights up to 50 feet on rigs, trucks, cranes, and other equipment.
  • Use grip strength (80–100 lbs per hand) to operate tools and handle equipment.
  • Work in shop and field environments, including temperature extremes and high-noise areas requiring PPE and hearing protection.
  • Typical schedule: 10-hour shift on a 5/2 rotation, with approximately 40% travel.
