Job Summary

Ames Construction is seeking a skilled and dedicated Field Mechanic specializing in Heavy Equipment to join our team. This role involves traveling to project sites and diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy machinery and industrial equipment in the field.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of heavy machinery and industrial equipment in the field.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks on heavy-duty equipment.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Work closely with the maintenance and operations teams to ensure minimal downtime and efficient operations.
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the United States and ability to stay for extended periods.

Requirements

• Minimum Class B CDL with Tanker and Hazmat endorsement.
• Experience with CAT Machines including but not limited to Articulation Trucks, Larger Excavators, Dozers, Skid Steers, Wheel Loaders, On Road Trucks.
• Proficient in performing preventive maintenance (PM) on various equipment, including 250, 500, 1000, and 2000-hour service intervals.
• Must be able to work swing shifts and have flexibility for both day and night shifts.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
• Grease all Equipment.
• Work closely with the maintenance and operations teams to ensure minimal downtime and efficient operations.
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the United States and ability to stay for extended periods.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Class B CDL with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements.
• Previous experience with CAT heavy equipment, including Haul Trucks, Loaders, Excavators, Dozers, and Skid Steers.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks on heavy-duty equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be flexible with shifts and work extended hours as needed.
• Familiar with Caterpillar SIS, ET programs preferred.

Working Conditions

• Work is primarily performed on active construction job sites, including highways, roadways, and heavy civil infrastructure projects.
• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust.
• Position requires walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting in a construction environment.
• May require extended work hours, early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays to meet project schedules.
• Frequent interaction with heavy equipment, moving machinery, traffic, and construction hazards; strict adherence to safety protocols is required.
• Travel between job sites may be required depending on project location.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all job sites.
