Mechanic Assistant #2610

Duties

• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on District fleet vehicles.
• Operate various tools and equipment including wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, power tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jack and lift equipment, and school buses.
• Drive assigned vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Pass required physical exams and drug/alcohol tests.
• Operate a school bus with proper certification and training.
• Communicate effectively using verbal and written communication skills.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Handle heavy lifting and carrying of up to 45 pounds daily.
• Adapt to working in various environments, including outside, inside, on slippery or uneven surfaces, in extreme temperatures, and around machinery.
• Comply with safety protocols and follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class B or A) with "P" and "S" endorsements.
• Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification.
• Ability to pass Texas Department of Public Safety school bus driver physical exam.
• Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests.
• Pass criminal history check and MVR driving record check.
• Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating verbally in English.
• One-year experience in auto/truck maintenance and repair, preferred.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment.
