Mechanic 1-3 (LAKE CHARLES)

This position performs repairs on a variety of makes and models of heavy and light duty construction equipment, passenger vehicles, medium duty trucks, and small engine equipment. The role is located in District 07/Unit 071. The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise. Participation in DOTD structured training programs, continuing education classes, and conferences is required to facilitate task performance. Compliance with Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, regulations, and DOTD policies is mandatory while in an official capacity.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of repairs on heavy and light duty construction equipment, passenger vehicles, medium duty trucks, and small engine equipment.
• Inspect equipment, diagnose mechanical problems, and determine the best course of repair.
• Remove and replace components such as starters, alternators, batteries, light assemblies, and switches.
• Diagnose and repair malfunctions in hydraulic systems, including dump bed lifts and aerial platform lifts.
• Provide instructions or assistance to lower-level mechanics and Mobile Equipment Operators for repair work or major repairs.

Requirements

• One year of experience or training as a mechanic.
• Operate a desktop computer and possess word processing skills.
• Troubleshooting skills with heavy equipment scan tools and diagnostic tools.
• Must respond to callouts during after-hours, days off, weekends, and holidays.
• Work tasks are carried out in all types of extreme weather conditions and hazardous work environments.
• Random drug testing is required.

Schedule

Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM.
