MECH TECH N 3 (SHEET METAL)

The Role

Must Have:

• Sheet metal fabrication skills
• Experience with sheet metal processes
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
• Strong attention to detail

Nice to Have:

• Knowledge of welding techniques
• Experience with CNC machines
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software

About the Role

Join our team of skilled tradespeople at Newport News Shipbuilding, where you'll contribute to the design, construction, and maintenance of some of the world's most advanced naval vessels. As a Mech Tech N 3 (Sheet Metal) you will be responsible for fabricating and assembling sheet metal components, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and precision.

Responsibilities

Perform sheet metal fabrication tasks according to blueprints and specifications.

• Operate various sheet metal fabrication equipment
• Assemble and join sheet metal components using welding and brazing techniques
• Inspect fabricated parts for accuracy and adherence to quality standards
• Work collaboratively with other trades to ensure seamless integration of sheet metal components into larger assemblies

Requirements

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of related sheet metal fabrication experience

Skills:

• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Proficient in basic math and reading comprehension
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently

Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

• Standing for extended periods
• Use of hands and arms for repetitive motions
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Other:

• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening
