Meat/Seafood Manager

About the Role

This role is responsible for the sales and operation of the Meat & Seafood Department. The position requires planning, ordering, and preparing cutting lists, as well as processing meat according to department goals and standards to maximize sales and gross profit. It involves leading a team to deliver the finest quality of product, highest level of service, and the greatest experience for customers.

Responsibilities

• Ensure correct ordering, receiving, unloading, storage, and rotation of merchandise and displays.
• Engage and evaluate team members through coaching, feedback, and one-on-one development discussions; make recommendations on merit increases via completing the bi-annual performance review process.
• Regularly attend and participate at in-store meetings.
• Recruit, hire and make promotion/transfer decisions in collaboration with the Store Manager.
• Confidently exercise independent judgment to address Team Member concerns.
• Take and document corrective actions when needed, including collaboration with business and HR partners in managing performance to include coaching, counseling, progressive discipline, suspension, or termination when needed.
• Ensure maximum productivity and efficiency by creating and adjusting schedules and staffing levels.
• Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to team members.
• Serve as a Key Carrier for the store and/or act as a Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.
• Minimum of 2 years of meat cutting experience in the grocery or restaurant industry including leadership experience.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes as the business changes, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Possess a working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
• Outgoing and friendly behavior along with a positive attitude towards Team Members and customers.

Physical Requirements

• Capable of standing for up to 4 hours continuously, and a total of 8 hours per shift; will walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
• Able to work inside a temperature controlled area.
• Possess good vision required for using sharp knives, band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine and tenderizer.
• Able to lift/carry products horizontally/vertically between 25 to 90 lbs., from 4" to 60", a distance up to 10 feet for 20 hours.
• Able to use a pallet jack to move pallets horizontally up to 500 lbs., requiring a force of up to 85 lbs., a distance up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours.
• Able to horizontally move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force up to 25 lbs., for a distance up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours.
• Able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force greater than 35 lbs., a distance up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour.
