Meat/Seafood Clerk

About the role

As a Meat Clerk at Sprouts Farmers Market, you will work in one of the store’s most popular departments. You will provide a high level of customer service, practice safe food handling, and maintain strong product knowledge and preparation skills. This hands-on role involves receiving, storing, and grinding meats; unloading and transporting fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; counting and weighing incoming items against invoices; and rotating stock to avoid aging. You will assist customers with questions and special orders, maintain a positive customer-focused environment, and follow weekly ad items, product location guidance, and the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.

Responsibilities

• Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks
• Count and weigh incoming articles and compare results against invoices
• Examine meats in storage and rotate stock to avoid aging
• Provide prompt and friendly customer service; assist customers with questions and special orders
• Maintain a positive, customer-focused work environment
• Know weekly ad items and direct customers to product locations throughout the store
• Follow “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs
• Adhere to all procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures
• Dependable and reliable; ability to perform other related duties as assigned
• Outgoing, friendly behavior; positive attitude; ability to interact with customers
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Good communication skills; ability to take direction and participate in a team environment
• Capable of standing for up to 4 hours continuously and up to 8 hours per shift; will walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours
• Ability to work inside a temperature-controlled area and perform general housekeeping in the department
• Good vision required for using sharp knives, band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer
• Ability to lift/carry products horizontally/vertically between 25 to 90 lbs., from 4” to 60”, up to 10 feet for 20 hours
• Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets horizontally up to 500 lbs., requiring a force up to 85 lbs., up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours
• Ability to horizontally move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force up to 25 lbs., up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours
• Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force greater than 35 lbs., up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour
