Meat/Seafood Clerk

About the role

As a Meat Clerk at Sprouts Farmers Market, you will work in one of the most popular departments in our store. This hands-on position involves receiving, storing, and grinding meats; unloading and transporting fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks; counting and weighing incoming articles; and examining meats in storage to ensure proper rotation. You will provide prompt and friendly customer service, assist customers with questions and special orders, and maintain a positive work environment. Knowledge of weekly ad items, product location, and adherence to food safety and cleanliness programs ("Clean as You Go" and "Fresh at 4") is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level customer service and assist customers with questions, special orders, and product location.
• Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
• Count and weigh incoming products and compare results against invoices.
• Examine and rotate meats in storage to avoid aging.
• Adhere to all procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department, including food handling and safety regulations.
• Perform general housekeeping, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas (tables, floors, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, etc.).
• Follow "Clean as You Go" and "Fresh at 4" programs.
• Participate in a team environment and take direction as needed.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Dependable, reliable, and able to perform other related duties as assigned.
• Outgoing, friendly behavior with a positive attitude and strong customer interaction skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Capable of standing for up to 4 hours continuously and 8 hours per shift; walking up to 2 miles per 8-hour shift.
• Good vision for using sharp knives, band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry products horizontally/vertically between 25 to 90 lbs., from 4” to 60”, a distance up to 10 feet for 20 hours.
• Use a pallet jack to move pallets horizontally up to 500 lbs., requiring a force of up to 85 lbs., a distance up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours.
• Horizontally move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force up to 25 lbs., for a distance up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours.
• Move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force greater than 35 lbs., a distance up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour.
• Work inside temperature-controlled areas.
