About the role

This position assists customers in their shopping experience by receiving, cutting, and serving meat products efficiently, friendlily, and courteously. The Meat Helper also smokes various meats, monitors product expiration dates, and ensures all products are displayed correctly.

Responsibilities

  • Follow proper techniques for cutting and preparing items for display cases.
  • Serve smoked meats daily.
  • Monitor product expiration dates and remove damaged, un-saleable, or returnable products.
  • Accurately count and record merchandise during inventory.
  • Change shelf tags, price markers, and label merchandise quickly and accurately.
  • Answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
  • Weigh, wrap, and price selected items for customers.
  • Maintain productivity standards to achieve desired team and individual results.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and escalate when necessary.
  • Implement Casentino’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Unload and sort incoming shipments, stock them neatly, and ensure products are front-facing.
  • Keep work area and department clean and safe.
  • Comply with health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
  • Show strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Show basic math and reading skills.

Essential Knowledge

  • A food handling permit must be obtained within 14 days of employment.
  • Completion of ongoing training and development as outlined in the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.

Skills

  • Knowledge of proper techniques for cutting and preparing meat products.
  • Ability to smoke various meats.
  • Ability to monitor and rotate product expiration dates.
  • Ability to identify and remove damaged, un-saleable, or returnable products.
  • Accuracy in counting and recording merchandise.
  • Quickness and accuracy in changing shelf tags, price markers, and labeling merchandise.
  • Knowledge of department items, procedures, and policies.
  • Customer service skills to answer questions accurately and courteously.
  • Ability to weigh, wrap, and price selected items for customers.
  • Ability to meet or exceed productivity standards.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints professionally.
  • Knowledge of Casentino’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Ability to unload and sort incoming shipments and stock them neatly.

Physical Abilities

  • Reaching overhead with both arms up to a maximum of 72 inches, twisting at the waist, and lifting objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Pushing and pulling grocery items/carts to the proper locations as needed, up to a peak force of 40 lbs.
  • Standing and walking for long periods of time on tile, asphalt, concrete, or other hard surfaces.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Bending, squatting, and crouching, at times all the way to floor level.
  • Able to work in colder conditions of the grocery coolers and freezers.
