About the Role
To assist the meat manager in effectively planning, organizing, leading, coordinating, and optimizing materials and human resources in the meat department. This role ensures variety and high-quality merchandise is appealingly displayed to maximize sales and profits while maintaining excellent customer service. You will function as the meat manager in their absence.
Responsibilities
- Provide an open-door atmosphere conducive to high associate morale and excellent customer service.
- Achieve the highest associate morale by managing in a style that is Respectful, Supportive, and Totally Team Oriented (RSTO).
- Commit to the “Golden Rule” and work with other associates to build a strong meat team.
- Promote the company image as a service-oriented operation where every associate greets, assists, renders efficient service, and thanks customers promptly and courteously.
- Ensure the department achieves performance standards outlined in the work and merchandising plan.
- Possess strong communication skills, facilitate department meetings, and ensure fair and consistent treatment in administering discipline.
- Oversee inventory, security, and expense control of the department.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and all applicable state and federal laws (e.g., scheduling, labor laws, dress code, sanitation regulations).
- Resolve customer complaints to their full satisfaction and answer product questions.
- Merchandise the department in accordance with community needs.
- Complete onboarding/e-learnings and checklists within 30 days of hire or entering the department.
- Train and develop associates according to company policies and procedures.
- Order, receive, unload, and store deliveries; price, date, rotate, and stock product for display and sale.
- Maintain proper product rotation (first in, first out) and control shrink and damaged goods.
- Achieve and maintain department merchandising goals (e.g., gross profit, presentation) in cooperation with store management.
- Plan, order, prepare cutting lists, and process meat to maximize sales and gross profit.
- Assist in planning work schedules and breaks to achieve payroll budgets.
- Ensure adherence to wage and hour policies, maintain accurate records, and respond to location mail and reports.
- Prepare special cuts as requested by customers.
- Minimize department expenses without compromising conditions or customer service.
- Delegate tasks and use initiative, ingenuity, and good judgment to solve problems.
- Conduct weekly sales meetings to establish merchandising, sales, and profit objectives.
- Monitor cooler and display temperatures to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failures immediately.
- Maintain company standards for safety, food handling, sanitation, and productivity.
- Follow the “Cleaner’s Creed” and proper sanitation procedures.
- Keep sales and work areas clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards.
- Exercise proper safety practices when lifting, moving products, or using equipment.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Verify price checks for customers as needed.
- Ensure department associates adhere to company dress code standards.
- Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, or property defacement.
- Clean walls, fans, and drains in the meat cooler, display cases, and work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful experience in meat operations, including merchandising, ordering, inventorying, and pricing.
- Completion of training in meat operations.
- Ability to display initiative and work with limited supervision.
- ServSafe certification required.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English, with the ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work a schedule based on business needs.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.

Pay
The hiring range for this position is $19.40 - $25.20 per hour. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to education, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
