MDS Coordinator / Case Mix Nurse

About the role

Machias, Maine-based Marshall Healthcare Facility is a 64-bed skilled and long-term care facility known for its dedicated staff and commitment to providing comprehensive care. The position is part of a high-functioning leadership and care team under the ownership of First Atlantic Healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and coordinate the development and completion of the resident assessment in accordance with state and federal regulations and facility policies.
• Ensure coding accuracy and capture needs and level of assistance for all residents.
• Oversee and/or complete care plans for all residents based on standard of nursing practice, including restorative plans.
• Document approaches and instruct nursing and ancillary staff on proper documentation.
• Instruct interdisciplinary team members on MDS due dates, ensuring timely completion of assessments and care plans.
• Communicate with team members about MDS items, Care Assessment and Certification (CACA), Care Mix payment, and Quality Indicators.

Requirements

• MDS and ICD-10 coding experience preferred, along with RAC-CT certification.
• Current, active Maine RN licensure or LPN license.
• Strong nursing clinical assessment, care planning, and delivery of care skills, with experience in a long-term care setting.
• Working knowledge of geriatric health care needs and clear communication skills.
• Familiarity with federal and state regulations related to long-term care and the resident assessment process.
• Experience with Medicare and MaineCare regulations, State Operations Manual, and Principles of Reimbursement.
• Knowledge of the MDS manual and updates, Quality Indicator System, and strong computer literacy.
• Ability to document within electronic medical records and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).

Skills

• Understanding of Medicare and MaineCare regulations, as well as the application of the State Operations Manual, and Principles of Reimbursement.
