About the Role

This position involves overseeing nursing operations in a long-term care facility, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing high-quality resident care. The role combines administrative, clinical, and leadership responsibilities to maintain a safe and efficient nursing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Functions:
    • Administer and oversee patient assessments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
    • Coordinate care plans according to regulatory requirements.
    • Manage Medicare and Medicaid schedules, initiate coverage, and send denial letters.
    • Stay updated on Medicare changes and determine Medicaid reimbursement documentation.
    • Direct day-to-day functions of nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
    • Review and update department policies, procedures, and job descriptions.
    • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned staff.
    • Maintain and ensure compliance with the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
    • Prepare reports and cooperate with other resident services for comprehensive care.
    • Assist in planning and updating resident discharge plans.
    • Handle admissions, transfers, and discharges, including documentation.
    • Complete administrative tasks such as medical forms, reports, and charting.
    • Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information.
  • Charting and Documentation:
    • Complete and file recordkeeping forms for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
    • Ensure physician orders are reviewed, recorded, and transcribed accurately.
    • Chart nurses’ notes descriptively, reflecting resident care and responses.
    • Document accidents/incidents and diet changes, forwarding information to relevant departments.
    • Ensure compliance with charting and documentation policies.
  • Drug Administration Functions:
    • Prepare and administer medications as ordered, verifying resident identity.
    • Maintain adequate supplies of medications, equipment, and narcotics.
    • Review medication cards for accuracy and adherence to policies.
    • Dispose of drugs and narcotics according to established procedures.
  • Personnel Functions:
    • Participate in performance evaluations and staffing decisions.
    • Provide leadership and assign tasks to nursing personnel.
    • Ensure nursing assistants meet training and supervision requirements.
    • Address complaints and grievances, ensuring fair disciplinary actions.
    • Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Nursing Care Functions:
    • Prepare for new admissions and orient residents/family members.
    • Coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered.
    • Implement and maintain nursing objectives and standards.
    • Monitor resident care, ensuring compliance with care plans.
    • Administer professional nursing services (e.g., catheterization, wound care).
    • Ensure resident safety and frequent checks for those unable to call for help.
    • Assist with transportation and post-mortem procedures as needed.
  • Staff Development:
    • Develop and conduct in-service training classes for nursing staff.
    • Maintain an effective orientation program for new employees.

Qualifications

Scale $37-$48 depending on experience and licensure.
