About the role
The MDHHS social work internship program is designed for students seeking to enhance their skills and potentially secure employment in the social work field. Students will gain hands-on experience working alongside our Services Specialists and may be considered for full-time positions within our department.
Responsibilities
- Assist in providing support to clients and families in need.
- Participate in case management activities.
- Conduct assessments and develop intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with other professionals to address complex client needs.
- Engage in community outreach and education initiatives.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
- Pursuing a major in human services such as social work, sociology, psychology, forensic psychology, interdisciplinary studies in social science, education, community development, law enforcement, behavioral science, gerontology, special education, education of the emotionally disturbed, education of the gifted, family ecology, community services, family studies, family and/or child development, counseling psychology, criminal justice, human services, or a related counseling major.
- At least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the above human services areas.
- Have a Child Welfare Certificate upon graduation (if applicable).
- Work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
- Be able to work from home or have access to home internet service.

Internships are available for the Spring (Jan-May), Summer (May-Aug), and Fall (Sept-Dec) semesters.
