MCPL celebrate America250 with Passport to Maysville program
About the role
The Mason County Public Library (MCPL) is showcasing the history of Maysville with its Passport to Maysville: America 250 program. On June 11, several individuals discussed the program's impact and the journey to its creation.
Responsibilities
- Program Coordinator Heather Wheeler and Programming Assistant Geli Murphy attended a conference where the idea of a passport program was introduced.
- Wheeler and Murphy brainstormed and named the program Passport to Maysville History America’s 250th.
- They invented the program, faced challenges, and eventually pulled it off with the help of various organizations and individuals.
- K-12 students participated in the program, visiting 10 locations in Maysville and Old Washington, getting stamped passports at each site.
- The program includes a craft activity at each location.

Additional Information
The Mason County Early Childhood Council, Maysville Tourism, the Robert Boone Family, DAR, CAR, and the City of Maysville supported the program. All camp kids with the YMCA Camp and Boys and Girls Club received passports. The program aims to educate children about their community's history and inspire them to contribute positively to their community.
