Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. is committed to using her experience as a mother, physician, organizer and elected official to help ensure every Oregonian has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life in the community of their choice.
About the Role
Grew up in the Pacific Northwest in a working-class family. Started a family while maintaining a full-time practice. Left a practice. Retired from practice. Engaged in non-clinical careers. Worked on balancing work and life.
Responsibilities
- Elected to serve her physician group
- Became the first woman to be Chair of the Board of Directors at Northwest Permanente
- Appointed to serve Oregon’s 33rd District in the Oregon House of Representatives
- Championed legislation to protect abortion access, expand addiction treatment services, protect public lands, and combat gun violence
- Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District
- Serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee
- Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations
Requirements
Graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 2001
Completed residency and fellowship at the University of Colorado
