Complicit, a series of photographs of older men, explores the existential reality all humans face. In 2010, Morrocco’s grandmother died, marking a difficult time for his family. In response, he began making portraits of older men to learn about aging. In contemporary culture, representation of older people—especially older gay people—is scarce. From 2010 to 2018, Morrocco sought out, photographed, and maintained relationships with older men, aiming to understand how to age without bitterness or fear. His early 20s were marked by anger, frustration, and loss, but through photographing these men and learning their stories—some triumphant, others heartbreaking—he gained a fresh perspective on masculinity and aging that he believes needs to be seen.
When Morrocco first exhibited this work, the title photograph was turned into a meme that circulated beyond his control, and no commercial gallery would touch it. Now, he is presenting it as a series of NFTs.
