Job Summary
Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is seeking an instructor who will develop curriculum and teach mathematics courses to a diverse student body in accordance with the college’s learning-centered philosophy. The One-Year-Only (OYO) instructor will use multiple methods of instruction, assessment strategies, and appropriate technology to engage students in learning and promote student success. The instructor may teach classes in multiple delivery formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online, and may teach daytime or evening classes at the Union Hills campus. The instructor will also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in service, collaboration, and innovation within the Mathematics Division and at the college and district levels, as well as facilitate activities outside the classroom for students.

Essential Functions
- Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students, including students in high school and bridge programs, using in-person, hybrid, accelerated, and online formats, using learning-centered strategies to engage students. Demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and scholarship of learning by focusing on student success, retention, and completion. Incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques.
- Develops instructional materials and curriculum, including syllabi, course outlines, and course materials. Assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students’ scholastic records. Prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities, participates in division and college assessment and program review processes. Uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning.
- Maintains office hours to assist and advise students to promote learning and personal development. Works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects such as clubs, undergraduate research, and internships with business and industry. Develops and cultivates relationships with high school and university institutions to develop and promote transfer pathways for students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field
- Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Decision Sciences, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education with emphasis in Mathematics, Curriculum and Instruction with Emphasis in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics
- OR
- Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours
- Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Decision Sciences, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education with emphasis in Mathematics, Curriculum and Instruction with Emphasis in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics
Desired Qualifications
- One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years.
- Master’s degree (or higher) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education
- Five (5) plus years full time teaching college-level mathematics at a university or community college.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and/or collaborating with students and colleagues in a variety of settings, including but not limited to: course design and development, leading student clubs or organizations outside the classroom, or supervising student projects
- Demonstrated innovative approaches to teaching of mathematics courses, including but not limited to the use of technology, to enhance student engagement and understanding of mathematical concepts.
- Demonstrated use of a variety of formal and informal assessment methods for the purposes of gauging student learning and teaching effectiveness.
- Demonstrated use of a variety of formal and informal assessment methods for the purposes of gauging student learning and teaching effectiveness.
- Experience teaching a diverse student body with various levels of mathematical preparedness, with a demonstrated commitment to closing achievement gaps and promoting an inclusive learning environment.
