Compensation follows a scale based on years of direct experience: starting at $62,000 for 1 year (BA) and up to $104,927 for 9 years (MA+15).
About the Role
The Math Lead Teacher for Grades 6 & 7 plans, organizes, and implements an instructional program that guides and encourages students to meet and exceed grade-level standards.
Responsibilities
Planning and Preparation for Learning
- Demonstrates subject-area expertise and a cutting-edge grasp of child development and how students learn.
- Develops a year-long plan tightly aligned with state standards and assessments.
- Plans all units backwards, aligned with high standards, state assessments, and all Bloom’s levels; documents and shares lessons with supervisor at least two weeks in advance.
- Designs diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to closely monitor student learning.
- Anticipates students’ misconceptions and confusions, developing multiple strategies to overcome them.
- Creates lessons with clear, measurable goals aligned with standards and unit outcomes.
- Designs highly relevant, engaging lessons that motivate all students in active learning.
- Uses an effective mix of high-quality, multicultural materials and technology.
- Differentiates lessons to address all learning needs, styles, and interests.
- Arranges the classroom environment to maximize learning, focusing on targets and student work.
Classroom Management
- Communicates and enforces high expectations with directness, consistency, and tenacity.
- Builds strong, respectful relationships with all students, fostering a climate where disruption is unthinkable.
- Implements a program that develops positive interactions and social-emotional skills.

- Orchestrates effective strategies, materials, and groupings to involve and motivate all students.
- Engages all students in focused work as active learners and problem solvers.
- Differentiates and scaffolds instruction to reach all students.
- Adapts lessons to exploit teachable moments and correct misunderstandings.
- Ensures students summarize, internalize, and apply learning to real-life situations.
Monitoring, Assessment, and Follow-Up
- Posts and reviews clear criteria for proficient work, including rubrics and exemplars.
- Administers a well-constructed diagnostic assessment up front and uses data to fine-tune instruction.
- Uses varied methods to check for understanding and immediately clarifies confusion.
- Sets ambitious goals with students, continually self-assesses, and improves performance.
- Frequently posts student work with rubrics and commentary to celebrate progress.
- Collaborates with colleagues to analyze interim assessment data, re-teach, and support struggling students.
- Provides relentless follow-up with personal attention to ensure all students reach proficiency.
- Ensures students needing specialized help receive appropriate services immediately.
- Analyzes data with colleagues to draw actionable conclusions and drive student growth.
- Reflects constantly on instructional effectiveness to continuously improve.
Family and Community Outreach
