About the role
The Summer Instructor, Math, for the TRIO Upward Bound Program will teach math courses to students at North Shore Community College's Lynn Campus and UMass Amherst during the summer.
Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in staff training, daily/weekly staff meetings, and end-of-program activities
- Design a curriculum that matches and supports Upward Bound's teaching and learning goals, yearly theme, and is responsive to Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
- Implement a virtual assessment/evaluation system for determining student success on assignments, culminating projects, class participation, and the course as a whole
- Identify virtual educational reference materials (books, articles, supplies, etc.) to be utilized during the course
- Incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy, student-centered learning, and multicultural perspectives
- Focus on one overarching project that guides the content and skills students will learn and apply to be presented on the last day of the summer program
- Collaborate with the Academic Coordinator to maximize academic benefits for each individual student
- Engage in non-instructional virtual activities including weekly meetings, facilitated study sessions, and co-curricular activities
Requirements
- B.A. or B.S. in the related field(s) required
- Familiarity with assessment techniques in the subject area(s)
- Teaching experience, preferably with urban youth
- Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in the related field(s)
- Demonstrated ability to be punctual and dependable
- Demonstrated ability to act as a team player
- Bi-lingual (Spanish, French, Khmer) preferred
- Demonstrated sensitivity towards and passion and commitment to working with students and staff of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, different levels of academic preparation, or/and varying physical and learning abilities-prior experience preferred

Benefits
- SALARY: Total earnings for this position is $4,368 at $36.55/HR plus room and board during the residential portion of the program.
- The College is not providing sponsorships for Visas at this time.
Pay
- $36.55 per hour
Schedule
- July 1: Staff Training
- July 2 - July 16: Day Program, 8am-4pm
- July 18 - August 8: Residential Program, UMass Amherst
- August 10: NSCC: Wrapping up paperwork and program materials
