Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer Specialty (Perinatology Sonographer Specialty)

Job Responsibilities

• Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical maternal-fetal history and informed consent.
• Explains the procedure to patients/families and answers questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
• Aids physicians in performing CVS, Amniocentesis, and image optimization studies using departmental protocols.
• Demonstrates thorough understanding of maternal fetal ultrasound principles and theory.
• Utilizes fetal anatomical knowledge to position patients for optimal image quality.
• Uses analytical abilities to select appropriate images for physician interpretation.
• Accurately measures maternal fetal area structures and pathology.
• Records all data, images, and technical notes for preliminary reports.
• Participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiatives, in-services, and meetings.
• Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition.
• Uses proper cleaning and disinfection techniques on ultrasound imaging transducers.

Qualifications

• Certification - Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics & Gynecology
• Licensure - None required
• Two years of hospital or doctor's office-based experience in specialized maternal-fetal sonography.
• High School diploma or equivalent; Degree from an Accredited Sonography Training Program preferred.
