About the role
Transform healthcare by diagnosing and treating human disease, illness and injuries while practicing evidence-based medicine. Prescribe medically necessary medications and treatments, and participate in various Carilion and/or hospital committees.
Responsibilities
- Complete necessary documentation for patients' health information records.
- Deliver high-quality, compassionate medical care applying evidence-based medicine.
- Examine patients using various medical equipment, instruments and tests.
- Order or perform various tests, analyses and imaging to provide information on patients' conditions.
- Diagnose patients' conditions based on examination results, tests and reports.
- Prescribe and administer drugs, treatments and vaccinations.
- May perform perinatal care, deliveries, surgeries and related invasive procedures.
- Work closely with case management, nursing, and the medical staff to ensure all patients have an appropriate plan of care and ongoing care coordination.
- Support Joint Commission continuous readiness and compliance.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives through collaboration with hospital management, the medical staff, and employees in areas like equipment and supply standardization, medical resource management, and evidence-based medicine.
- Timely and accurately complete all required documentation.
- Report births, deaths, and contagious diseases as required.
- Conduct, cooperate, support, and collaborate on basic and clinical research.
- Develop and test new medical techniques.
- Supervise medical treatment of patients, including overseeing physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, medical residents, medical students, and office staff.
- Participate in teaching and mentoring activities.
Requirements
This position requires a strong commitment to patient care, evidence-based medicine, and collaboration. Candidates must have a medical degree and be licensed to practice medicine in the United States. Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
