Materials Supervisor

About the role

Driving change using TMS principles as it pertains to material production flow while supervising all Shipping and Receiving personnel, all Material Handlers, and all Subcage personnel. Coordinate the warehouse runs, plan material moves that do not involve outside carrier moves. Participate and lead lean events related to material movement and assist in establishing metrics and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop material processes and systems that support the Plant Operations.
  • Arrange in-plant transfers of materials to meet production schedules.
  • Supervise Shipping and Receiving personnel.
  • Supervise Material Handlers on all shifts.
  • Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.
  • Continuously improve equipment utilization.
  • Assist in establishing key metrics for the team and hold accountable to reach the established goals.
  • Write standardized work, train to it, and hold team members accountable.
  • Monitor and promote environmental, health, safety, and housekeeping within area of responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include filling in for operations.
  • Overtime as required/requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of prior experience.
  • Minimum one-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • APICS application/certification – preferred.
  • Understanding of ERP planning systems.

Physical Demands

  • Flexibility to work long hours and other work schedules as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Extensive standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending over, reaching, twisting, arm wrist and hand motion.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Good visual ability.
  • Occasional skin exposure to chemical-based fluids such as coolant, drawing compounds, lubricating oils, etc.

Mental Demands

  • High level of people-skills, empathy, and conflict resolution ability.
  • Ability to perform quick decision-making in response to operational issues such as equipment failures, staffing shortages, or shipment delays/component or material shortages.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and allocate resources effectively using strong planning skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Critical focus on safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and quality – high vigilance in identifying hazards and ensuring team follows established procedures.
  • Continuous improvement mindset – should proactively identify inefficiencies, improvements, and drive operational excellence.

Work Environment

  • This job is performed in office and production areas of the plant.
  • Varying temperatures (cold to hot).
  • Infrequent exposure to outside weather environment.
  • Fast-paced work environment.
  • Small, confined space around some machines/equipment.
  • Wet, slippery floors in some areas.
