Materials Planning Supervisor

Job Summary

Primary responsibilities include coordinating and planning data and BOM integrities for purchased and manufactured parts for all Dayton branch plants, ensuring the accuracy of inventory levels within the tracking systems by leading auditing, reporting, and problem-solving processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and maintain all planning data within e1 for manufactured and purchased materials for supply and profit centers.
  • Oversee materials team members who run and utilize various e1 reports to input data, make transactions and plan and place orders.
  • Monitoring and updating style forecasts.
  • Cooking, researching, planning, and placing orders, when necessary, to support all engineering changes, drop styles and new style implementations between production, R&D and purchasing.
  • Reporting of any discrepancies in new or existing BOM to appropriate personnel for investigation and corrections.
  • Maintains cooperation and communication with Purchasing to ensure vendor and plant requirements are met.
  • Establish adequate inventory levels for Dayton Service Center usage through forecasting and necessary inventory transactions.
  • Investigates causes of shortages and other inventory abnormalities, reconciling the negative on hand balances of active and obsolete parts.
  • Responsible for making various transactions/adjustments in e1, including but not limited to, cycle count adjustments, inventory transfers, issuing of material and month-end transactions.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of inventory levels by leading, auditing, reporting, and problem-solving processes.

Scope & Impact

This position is responsible for ensuring all Dayton branch plants have the materials they need to produce, assemble, and ship quality furniture to our customers on-time, every time.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with 4-6 years of experience in inventory systems management, or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-3 years of supervisory/leadership experience in inventory system management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with: Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office programs and JD Edwards or similar inventory management system.
  • Knowledge of material requirements planning (MRP), lean supply techniques, and material handling equipment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to hold teams accountable and drive process improvements.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing and Just-in-Time (JIT) tools.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and work with various levels of management and team members. Display a professional attitude.
  • Project a positive image of La-Z-Boy to all customers, both internal and external.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take on responsibilities and handle employee issues without constant supervision and direction.
  • Ability to clearly write reports, memos, and emails.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CPIM certification (APICS)
  • Familiarity with Agile and how to read a print.
  • Commitment to position and La-Z-Boy’s vision and mission.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Primarily Office environment. Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and move throughout the facility when needed. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 lbs. Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery, varying temperatures, and moderate noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and hearing protection.
